Time-limited Rules for Qualifying PSLF Payments

Posted by Russell W. DombrowSep 07, 2022

Any prior repayment period will count as a qualifying payment toward Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PLSF) under the new limited time only waiver. This is regardless of loan program, repayment plan, or whether you made the payment in full or on time. You must continue to have qualifying employment, though.

This change applies to Direct Loan borrowers, those who have already consolidated into the Direct Loan Program, and those who consolidate into the Direct Loan Program by October 31, 2022.

Parent PLUS loan repayment periods are not eligible under the limited PSLF waiver.

If you have additional questions about this limited time opportunity to benefit from the PSLF waiver, then please go to the Education Department's PSLF Waiver webpage.
